Qatar Beat Bhutan by 9 Wickets — Muhammad Asim's 4 for 6 Wins the Battle of Four-Pointers
Qatar and Bhutan came into Bangi level on four points. Mirza Mohammed Baig struck three times early, Muhammad Asim took 4 for 6, and Bhutan lost six wickets for seven runs to be all out for 64. Zubair Ali's 45 from 22 balls ended it in the sixth over.
This was billed as a meeting of equals: Qatar and Bhutan, two wins each from three games. For half of Bhutan's innings it looked like one. They were 57 for 4 in the 11th over, with Namgang Chejay settled. Then the floor gave way. Six wickets fell for seven runs, and Bhutan were all out for 64 in the 16th over.
Zubair Ali made 45 from 22 balls in reply, and Qatar won by 9 wickets, with 86 balls remaining.

Bhutan's top three came out hitting, with six fours between them, but Mirza Mohammed Baig took all three of them inside his two overs: Tenjin Rabgey caught behind, Sonam Chophel lbw, Ranjung Mikyo Dorji caught. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman then had Thinley Jamtsho stumped and conceded only nine runs from his four overs.
The decisive passage belonged to Muhammad Asim. With Bhutan rebuilding at 57 for 4, a run-out of Tashi Phuntsho opened the way and Asim did the rest: Chejay caught and bowled, Anand Mongar caught behind, Gakul Ghalley bowled, Tashi Dorji stumped. Wicketkeeper Shahzaib Jamil was involved in five dismissals. Zubair Ali, unbeaten on 34 in the win over Myanmar two days earlier, then hit five fours and two sixes in a 58-run opening stand with Zeeshan Haider from 31 balls.
Bhutan's approach early on was brave and, for a while, it worked: 30 on the board by the fifth over, with Dorji's 10 from 7 and Chophel's 9 from 9. Namgang Chejay then batted with care for 16 from 22, including the innings' only six, and the stand of 24 with Tashi Phuntsho was the best of the day for Bhutan. Losing Phuntsho and Chejay within nine balls changed everything, and the lower order could add only seven more.
The bowlers had little to defend, but Sonam Yeshey did remove Zubair Ali with seven still needed. Bhutan have beaten Myanmar and Mongolia in this tournament, and they will need the batting that carried them in those games when they meet Kuwait.
Qatar chose to field. Runs came quickly for both sides against the new ball: Bhutan were 30 for 3 in the fifth over, and Qatar had 58 on the board before losing a wicket in the sixth. Bhutan's slide came later, and the two stumpings and a caught-and-bowled among the late wickets hint at batters being drawn into mistakes rather than blown away. Beyond that, the scorecard alone can't tell us much about the surface.
Four overs, a maiden, six runs and four wickets. Muhammad Asim found Bhutan in a position to post a competitive score and left them with nothing to bowl at. His four victims all fell between the 13th and 15th overs, and they turned a recovery into a rout. Some spells are about pace or menace; this one was about a bowler giving nothing away until the batters gave something up.
