Karnali Yaks Beat Janakpur Bolts by 19 Runs — Unish Thakuri's Two in Two Defends 132
Karnali Yaks were held to 132 for 9 by Harmeet Singh, Moeen Ali and Rahul Yadav. It was enough. Hussain Talat's double strike left Janakpur Bolts at 57 for 5, Unish Thakuri took 3 for 22 including two wickets in two balls, and Janakpur were bowled out for 113.
Some totals look short at the halfway mark and turn out to be plenty. Karnali Yaks made 132 for 9 after being sent in, and for a while it looked like Janakpur Bolts, with Moeen Ali, James Neesham and Kusal Perera in their batting order, would get there comfortably. They never got close.
Janakpur were 57 for 5 inside ten overs, recovered to 89 for 5, and then lost three wickets for five runs. They were bowled out for 113 in 19.3 overs. Karnali Yaks won by 19 runs, and Unish Thakuri, who took 3 for 22, was Player of the Match.

Karnali's batting was never comfortable. Mark Watt went in the first over, Deepak Dumre hit two sixes in a 5-ball 13 and was bowled, and Hussain Talat made 3 off 14. The powerplay ended at 38 for 3. What kept the innings together was Ariful Islam, whose 43 off 29 balls contained four sixes and not a single four, and Pawan Sarraf, who made 37 off 37 with three sixes. They added 42 for the fourth wicket before Harmeet Singh removed Ariful and then Akbar Ali, the second after a Janakpur review, to make it 81 for 5. Sarraf stayed until the 19th over, and that got Karnali to 132.
The bowling made it look like more. Watt and Sompal Kami bowled four overs between them for 10 runs. Hussain Talat, after his struggle with the bat, took 3 for 26, including Moeen Ali and Kusal Perera three balls apart in the tenth over to leave Janakpur at 57 for 5. Nandan Yadav finished it with the last wicket, and Gulsan Jha held three catches.
Janakpur's bowlers deserve credit. Harmeet Singh took 3 for 22 with a maiden, Rahul Yadav conceded 15 in four overs, and Moeen Ali took 2 for 19. Only Lalit Rajbanshi, who went for 38 in three overs, was expensive. Restricting a side to 132 at Kirtipur and losing is not a bowling problem.
The batting is where it went wrong. Trit Raj Das went for 1, Mayan Yadav was run out after two sixes, and Anil Sah used 17 balls for 11. Moeen made 19 off 22 and Perera 6 before Talat removed them both. Harmeet (19 off 13) and Neesham (15 off 14) added 32 for the sixth wicket and gave Janakpur hope, but once Thakuri broke that stand there was no one left to finish it. Abhisekh Tiwari hit two sixes in 20 off 17, but by then the required rate had run away. Janakpur need their established names to make more than 6, 15 and 19.
Both powerplays were slow: 38 for 3 and 32 for 2. Neither side hit many fours (Karnali managed just one in their whole innings), and most of the scoring came in sixes or singles. The cheapest bowlers were the ones who bowled tight: Watt, Kami, Rahul Yadav and Moeen. As in the earlier game on the day, the side batting first defended a modest total. Teams who win the toss here may need to rethink the habit of bowling first.
Thakuri's three wickets came at the moment Janakpur were trying to rebuild. He took a return catch to remove Harmeet Singh with the score on 89, ending a 32-run stand. Then, in the 16th over, he had James Neesham caught by Ariful Islam and Aaditya Mahata lbw off consecutive balls, Mahata's review failing. Janakpur went from 89 for 5 to 94 for 8, and the chase was over. Add a maiden in four overs, and you have a spell that did not just take wickets but took the air out of the game.

After three matches, Karnali Yaks join Lumbini Lions and Chitwan Rhinos as early winners. Karnali showed they can defend a below-par score with a deep bowling attack, but they will want more than one batter past 40. For Janakpur, the bowling looks strong; the challenge is getting runs from their experienced top six. If Moeen, Perera and Neesham find their timing, they will be a different side.
