Netherlands lost Cedric de Lange in the second over and were only 76 for 2 after 15.3, but O'Dowd and Edwards added 106 for the third wicket. Aayan Afzal Khan took two wickets in two balls to break it at 182, and from there Edwards and Ackermann added an unbroken 81. Muhammad Rohid's ten overs for 28 deserve a sentence of their own on a day when runs came easily.
At 87 for 3 in the 17th over, UAE had a long way to go. Akshdeep Nath's 99 off 88 balls changed the arithmetic, and Usmani, who batted through to 81 not out off 93, gave the chase its spine. Nath fell lbw to de Leede one short of his hundred, which will sting for a while, but Awais Ali Shah's quick 7 not out finished the job with an over to spare.
Netherlands move on quickly and meet Oman on November 2.
